Signature Styling #13

Many of you have popped into the shop these past few weeks looking for winter wear, quite understandably.  But while we do still have a selection of coats, knits and boots in store, our focus is now firmly on looking forward to the new season.

This "...topsy-turvey approach" that we take in fashion is questioned by Vogue's Nicola Copping in their January issue.  And at the recent round of couture shows in Paris, New York Times columnist Stuart Emmrich wrote in A Tale of Two Seasons about how strange it was to be reviewing the spring styles in the snow!

It's a subject that's often returned to, as the fashion world continues to stay at least one step ahead of the real world.  And as this state of affairs is likely to remain unchanged, here are my top tips to help manage the seasonal switchover, and ensure you don't miss a trick!

Become a stealth shopper...
Find out when your favourite stores take delivery of their collections, as well as when their sales start.  A little forward planning will help ensure you're the first in the queue for the new styles.

Think trans-seasonal...
Separating clothes into spring/summer and autumn/winter is becoming less and less relevant as the line between the seasons increasingly  blurs.  Layering and some savvy styling will ensure your wardrobe works all year round.

Holiday shop...
Many online fashion retailers now offer permanent Holiday Shops within their sites, making it possible to purchase summer or winter wear whatever the season.

Get on the list...
Join our Wish List! If there's an item you're looking for, then simply let us know and we'll get in touch as soon as it hits the store.

Follow your heart...
If you buy what you love, and what you know will suit you, then whether it's a coat in the height of summer or swimsuit in the depths of winter, it will be the perfect purchase whatever the weather.

How to...Shop Smart

Today's straitened times call for some seriously smart shopping, and in the current issue of Vogue Emily Sheffield considers whether post-recession we have indeed become savvier shoppers.

We certainly no longer need a closet full of clothes to look up to date.  With a little creative thinking we can simply style ourselves into a new season, adding only those pieces without wear by dates that complement and enhance our own unique way of dressing.

So, with this mantra in mind here are my top five tips for smart shopping...

Make a list...
Before you leave the house think about what you really want or need.  By far the best preparation for a shopping trip is a wardrobe edit.  This will help you easily identify which items you are missing, and pinpoint those new season pieces that are truly worthy of your investment.

Do your homework...
Expense doesn't always equal success, and when budgets are stretched it pays to do your research.  Think a little bit more about what you buy and demand a little bit more from where you buy it.

Avoid impulse buys...
Take your time.  Items purchased on a whim, especially at the sales, often go unworn and unwanted.  Shop with your long term wardrobe in mind rather than for a quick fashion fix.

Fall in love...
Invest only in those pieces that excite you, and which you will truly cherish.  And don't save them for 'best'.  Wear them now!

And finally...
Shop your closet!  Breathe new life into your wardrobe by playing with pieces you already own.  Even the smallest change can alter the overall look of an outfit and bring it bang up to date.

I'm not big on bling, but these gorgeous gold rings have been lodged in my subconscious ever since I saw them on the spring/summer catwalk.

And then this Repossi campaign appeared in the glossies.  Oh my...

This white gold hinged ring is now high on my wish list.  Although with a four figure price tag, it's probably going to be staying on that list for quite some time...

Shoe Secrets

My Wardrobe SS13 Preview

Danish born Camilla Skovgaard is known for her striking, sky high shoe designs, and in My Wardrobe's new season preview magazine she shares some of her style secrets.  Here are a few of her words of wisdom...

* "A good pair of shoes can update an entire look from day to evening.  They allow you to add your very own rebel edge to an otherwise plain outfit.

* There are no rules for dressing from the feet up...It's about style and a mood.

* Some uber-stilettoes are just meant for 'in cab and out of cab moments' - but you'll look fab!

*  I recommend filling shoes with tissue paper when being stored away - both for moisture and shape."

Signature Styling #12

What does your current style say about you?

January is traditionally the time of year when many of us look to 'reinvent' ourselves, and changing our personal style is one of the most immediate ways to transform not only ourselves, but how others see us.  However, rethinking old wardrobe habits can be hard...

But looking and feeling great everyday is easy when you know how, and that know how is just a phone call away!  So if you're looking to discover a 'new you' or simply want to revitalise your wardrobe then why wait? Simply click here for my personal contact details.

To help kick start your new year style-wise, here's my top dressing do's and don'ts...

Dont... a slave to fashion
Looking up to date doesn't mean dressing head to toe in the latest trends.  Resolve to seek out those key pieces that will give you the look and feel of the season, without compromising your own unique style.

...forget the details
Whether you're a high street or high end shopper, pay close attention to quality, cut and fit.  Investing a little time in building a great wardrobe will save you precious minutes in front of the mirror each morning.

...get stuck in a style rut
Embracing your signature style doesn't mean that fashion will no longer be fun.  By looking out for new labels and experimenting with different styles you'll keep your look fresh.

...look after your clothes
Carefully cared for clothes will not only last longer, but look and feel better too. Replace wire hangers with more substantial versions, and invest in some scented wardrobe sachets and drawer liners to create that boutique feel at home. out a good tailor
Finding the perfect fit 'off the peg' is truly a stroke of good luck.  A good tailor is essential to maintaining a wardrobe that really works, and can also breathe new life into those tired and forgotten pieces lurking at the back of your closet. inspired
Fashion should be enjoyed, and clothes are a fun way of expressing ourselves.  Getting dressed is an opportunity for daily reinvention, so be bold and be brave!  But always be yourself...

On the Button

Stockholm Streetstyle

This snap, posted by blogger Caroline Blomst on her streetstyle site, is all about the pearls.  But I have to admit that the beautiful silver buttons also caught my eye. Without them the rather plain coat would look, well, rather plain.

It's these little details, or lack of them, that can make or break a great outfit, and I often bemoan the lack of attention to such simple things, which in these days of fast fashion so often seem to be an after thought. However...'s easy to change buttons (Catwalk to Closet #2) or even add simple embellishments to a garment to create your own unique piece, or update a well worn favourite. So why not get creative and give it a go!
