When this dramatic black leather and wool dress from Céline's pre-fall 2011 collection was brought into the shop recently, it definitely had my name on it. However, there was one slight problem...it was two sizes too big.
Not to be deterred, I arranged a fitting with Jenny, our tailor. Jenny worked her usual magic et voilà! The dress is now a perfect fit...
Having a great tailor you can rely on is an essential in every fashionista's armoury. We all expect to be able to buy straight off the peg every time we go shopping, but if you think about this logically it's a rather tall order. Even garments that are 'our size' could often do with a little adjustment so that we look our best.
So, if like me you fall in love with something at the shop that's not a perfect fit, then all is not lost. Thank you Jenny!

|M&S AW12 Campaign|
As my clients will tell you, I'm not very forgiving when it comes to critiquing magazines and big label brands on their styling.
Not everyone has the know how, or indeed the time, to style themselves, and so the images in magazines and online are used by many women to help them put outfits together, as well as influence their purchases. Therefore, it's quite frustrating to see that many styling 'experts' are hindering rather than helping their efforts to look their best.
Take this current M&S campaign. Individually, the new season pieces are on trend and mostly very wearable, but the way they have been styled on the models? Well that's another matter...
This great khaki coat is a key piece from the brand's Modern Military collection. However, the styling of the image on the left, the one that's being used in the nationwide campaign, falls far short of the image on the right which appears on the store's website.
Wearing coats with trousers is always tricky, as if the coat is too long it can make the wearer look out of proportion and often shorter than she actually is. While the length of the coat here is fine (just), the lovely streamlined silhouette it creates is being broken by tucking the rather baggy looking trousers into the boots!
The website image is much more flattering, as the slim, full length trousers continue the silhouette created by the coat, clearly showing the M&S customer how she can very successfully style the look herself.
Look out for future posts in this series...

Unfortunately the colder weather now seems set to stay with us, so the time has come to store away our summer wardrobes and get ready for the new season.
This is the perfect time for closet decluttering, and I've listed below some handy hints to help you get started.
And if you need a little more encouragement to get editing, we are now accepting autumn clothing and accessories at the shop. So, we may be able to relieve you of your unwanted items, as well as help fund some of your new season buys!
- If your wardrobe is filled with pieces that you no longer wear, then it's probably time to let them go. However, if you don't feel ready to take this step just yet, then simply store them elsewhere. If after a month or two you haven't given the items a second thought, you may be ready to part company.
- Don't hang onto things in the hope that they will come back into fashion. Despite the regular 'recycling' of styles from decades past, the updated versions are always a little different.
- Be aware of those pieces that you have a tendancy to overdose on. You don't necessarily have to get rid of any of them, just keep in mind how many you have next time you find yourself heading to the cash desk with yet another.
- Take a long, hard look at those clothes that no longer fit or flatter you. If you have be hanging onto them until you drop a dress size, then do try to be honest with yourself. If in your heart of hearts you know that you have set yourself an unrealistic goal, then take a trip to a local tailor to see if they can be altered so that you can enjoy wearing them now.
- Discard any items that really can't be repaired. Clothes worn to a sheen from dry cleaning or with immovable stains should be consigned to the bin.
- Finally, carefully consider how you dispose of those unwanted but still wearable items. Clothes that are simply no longer 'you' may be perfect for someone else, so offset your closet footprint by taking them to a local charity, or your favourite dress agency!
